CALCULATIONS FOR THE YARDAGES, APPROXIMATE COSTS, AND THE APPROXIMATE TIMETABLE
FOR THE RECLAMATION OF THE WEST PIT.
In the absence of any recent verifiable data on the West Pit, data has been
taken from Exhibit "B" attached to the Option Agreement between GEC and the
Harrison Western Corporation, dated 15 October 1982, which details the study of
possible utilization of the West Pit as an entry for the Newlin Creek Mine.
Exhibit"B" says, in part, ..." the estimated volume of the ~dest Pit is 142,000
cu. yds. ... and ..." the reclamation cost to include grading, topsoiling, re-
vegetation, and contour furrowing will be approximately (4.34 acres)(55,491/acre)
equals 523,834.00...".
From the CATEP,PILLAR PERFORMANCE HANDBOOK, 13th. ed., pg. 42:
D-8 with straight dozer, 300ft. dozing distance = 380 lcy/hr.
Correction factors: average operator 0.75
material 0.95
slot dozing 1.2
job efficiency, 50 min, hr. 0.84
-15e grade 1.2
weight correction 0.76
Backfill production: 380 lcy/hr. (0.75)(0.95)(1.2)(0.84)(1.2)(0.76) = 248.81 lcy
per hour. USE 250 Icy/hour.
West Pit backfill time: 142,000 cu. yds./ 250 lcy/hr. = 568 hours.
USE 570 hours.
Local rates fora D-8 equipped with a straight blade = $85.00/hr operated.
West Pit backfill cost: (570 hrs.)(585.00/hr.) = 548,450.00
West Pit grading, topsoiling, etc.: 523,834.00
TOTAL WEST PIT RECLAMATION COST: 572,284.00
At an estimated 57,500/mo. funding rate, it will take almost ten months to com-
plete the West Pit reclamation. Starting in October 1984, the backfilling could
be accomplished by the middle of April 1985, and the grading, topsoiling, reveget-
ation and contour furrowing could be complete by the middle of July 1985. This
supposes a working schedule of some 88 hours each month during the winter. This
is deemed reasonable in the mild climate of the Florence, CO area.
Seedbed preperations, fertilization, seeding, and mulching could be done by late
summer and growth should be evident by fall of 1985. All roads, sedimentation
ponds, culverts, and revegetated areas will be maintained throughout reclamation
of the site. Ponds will be cleaned yearly or whenever they reach 60a of capa-
city. Roads and ditches will be graded and pulled to reduce the erosion of the
-2-
