:,~ ~__.
_- III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
' ~~ 999
Mr, Edward Bischoff
Senior Reclamation Specialist
~!ined Land Reclamation Division
423 Centennial Bldg., 1313 Sherman St.
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Fir. Bischoff:
EXHIBIT .'.6
Curtis L. Miller
1507 Park Ave.
Canon City, CO 81212
11 April 1984
On 23 March 1984, the Mined Land Reclamation Board voted to request GEC Minerals
Inc. to submit a report on it's compliance with the MLRD staff recommendations
and a timetable for reclamation of its mined lands.
On 23 March 1984 a meeting was held with the staff to collect the latest approved
maps and survey information. At that meeting, it was suggested by the staff that
reclamation of the West Pit take precedence in GEC's activities, and be undertaken
first in order to take best advantage of GEC's reduced capabilities. On 28 March
1984, a further meeting with the staff was held on the 4lest Pit site to discuss
methods ar.d to aquaint all parties with site conditions.
At this time, I would like to report the following compliance with the staff rec-
ommendations: GEC, under previous arrangements, is proceeding with the clean out
of sedimentation ponds "A", "B", "B "', and "C". This work should be completed by
20 April 1984, weather permitting. Restoration of spillways and Bullied areas
could be completed the week after, weather permitting. As requested, a gate has
been installed at the enterance of the mine haul road.
GEC Minerals Inc. is commited to complete reclamation of its mined areas as soon
as it it financially able to do so. GEC management expects funding to become
available in October 1984 at the rate of approximately 55,000 to $10,000 per month.
At that time, reclamation of the West Pit will be started as requested by the MLRD
staff and as outlined in GEC's Mining and Reclamation plan embodied in permit No.
CO-037-81.
Negotiations with Dorchester Coal Company are ongoing concerning the placement of
Dorchester coal preperation waste in the East Pit and possible leasing of the GEC
tipple area and main haul road and assunption of the tipple and haul road bonding.
