The existing permanent roads are about 20 feet in width and built from the local
soils. Cattle guards are in place on the existing roads. In certain areas of the road
that connects the test facility to Horse Draw, rock has been hauled in to improve
passability in wet weather. The existing road from the plant site to t{:e test mine
facility (termed well field access road) will be upgraded. The well field access rond
will have a total width of about 28 feet (with shoulders) and a 12-inch-thick gravel
surface. Estimated total cut and fill for the final road is given in item 14 below.
Yellow Creek Jeep Trail will not be upgraded. However, about 6,200 feet of the road
will be rerouted near the plant site. The rerouted portion (and the existing road) is
shown on figure 2-1. Estimated cut and fill is given for the road realignment is
given in response to item 14 below.
14. Section 2.1.2.1, page 2-6 - What is the width and surface material for temporary access
roads? Are there BLM design criteria that will have to be applied? Width should include both
surface and construction width. Will there be cut and fill?
Temporary access roads will be about 12 feet wide with 3 foot shoulders on each side.
The total disturbed width will be about 22 feet including drainage accommodations.
The surface material will be native rock and soil. The BLM will not apply design
criteria for the access roads.
The following are preliminary estimates of required cut and fill for project
components. ~AII the estimates except for the temporary roads assume 1 foot of
topsoil has been removed and stockpiled prior to any cut or fill. The estimate for
the temporary roads in the 0-5 year panel uses no assumption of top soil removal.
Piceance Plant Site
Cut = 20,900 cy
Fill = 21,609 cy
Piceance Site Evaporation Pond -Note -this estimate could change if a deeper pond
is excavated.
Cut = 51,812 cy
Fill = 79,127
Piceance Plant Main Access Road
Cttt = 271,246 cy
Fill = 22,771 cy
Yellow Creek Jeep Trail realignment
Cut = 4,999 cy
Fill = 7,607 cy
6
