90. forecasted population growth for the specific communities (Meeker, Rangely, Rifle,
Parachute, and Battlement Mesa)
This information was not obtained for the Commercial Mine Plan. You might try
the Division of Local Government. County-level future population projections are
available, but I have not found them at the community level.
From http://www.dlg.oem2.state.co.us/demog/datalist.htm:
"A large number of documents presenting demographic and 1990 census data are
available from the Demography Section of the Colorado Division of Local
Government. To obtain descriptions of these documents call (303) 866-4147 or E-
mail and ask for a copy of our Document Catalog and Price List to be mailed or faxed
to you. In addition to the demographic data, economic forecasts for jobs (wage and
salary or E5202+), employed persons, unemployed persons, and labor force can be
obtained. The forecasts are available only in printed form at the cost of $20."
91. Section 7.14.1.2 -The vacancy rates for other towns (Meeker, Rangely, Pazachute, and
Battlement Mesa)
Information for local towns was sought for the Mine Plan, but, unfortunately, was
not available. The Colorado Division of Housing compiled a "Multifamily Housing
and Rental ,Survey," that included Glenwood Springs but no other local
communities. The City of Rifle provided the estimate for that community. Brief
discussions with local officials in Parachute and Battlement Mesa yielded unofficial
vacancy estimates of about 2 percent. Short of interviewing realtors or surveying
apartment complexes individually, this information does not appear to be readily
available.
92. Do you expect that employees may reside as far away as Glenwood Springs? If so, what
percentage?
Indeed, employees maeu reside as far away as Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction.
This is unknown at this time because most of the hiring is yet to occur. Current
employees reside in Meeker, Rangely, Rifle, Glenwood Springs, Parachute, and
Battlement Mesa. Many future hires will likely reside in the towns they are
currently living in, which could 6e any of the above. Newcomers will have to
decide what they can afford or are willing to afford (i.e., Glenwood Springs) or what
is most suitable for their particular needs, or they may locate based simply o n
proximity to work. It is difficult to predict where they will live. In the Commercial
Mine Plan, we made some assumptions about employee distribution to estimate
transportation impacts. See Commercial Mine Plan pages 8-43 to 8-46 to review
35
