the three shrub pazcels, and monitoring ground stability on the slump parcel,23
Reclaimed Areas of Previous Bond Releases
All of the 362 acres that had been disturbed were granted Phase I bond release, all except 8.9
acres were granted Phases II and III bond release; and all but the 8.9 acres of the 1,276 acres have
been removed from the permit azea24. The 8.9 acres were retained to insure successful
revegetation (shrub augmentation) of the three shrub parcels, and to demonstrating ground
stability25 in the slump parcel.
A Partial Phase I release (Bond Release SL-O1) was approved in 1988 for 319 acres east of RCR
53. This included the azeas of Parcels HG-3, E, and Slump.
A Partial Phase I release (Bond Release SL-02) was approved in 1997 for 45.1 acres west of
RCR 53. This included Pazce1003.
A Partial Phase II and Phase III (Bond Release SL-03) was approved for 357.3 acres (both east
and west of RCR 53). As explained above, Pazcels 003, HG-3, E and Slump were not included in
this bond release.
Reclamation History of Areas of this Bond Release Request
The Paroel HG-8 area was reclaimed and originally revegetated in 1982 as a part of the mine pit
reclamation (1986). This parcel was included in the Partial Phase I release (Bond Release SL-O1)
approved in 1988 for 319 acres east of RCR 53. Shrub augmentation seedling plantings occurred
in 1996 and 1997.
The Parcel E area was reclaimed and originally revegetated in 1984 as a part of the mine pit
reclamation (1986). This parcel was included in the Partial Phase I release (Bond Release SL-Ol)
approved in 1988 for 319 acres east of RCR 53. Shrub augmentation seedling plantings occurred
in 1996 and 1997.
The Slump azea was reclaimed and originally revegetated in 1986 as a part of the mine pit
reclamation. This parcel was included in the Partial Phase I release (Bond Release SL-O1)
approved in 1988 for 319 acres east of RCR 53. In 1992, a slump developed neaz the highwall.
Slump stability work, which included installation of underground drains, minor grading, and
seeding, was accomplished in 1994. Additional stabilization work was required in 1996, and
additional seeding was accomplished in 1998. Continued compliance of the remedial work with
Phase I Bond Release criteria is validated in this application.
zs Technical Revision 68 Preface
24 Technical Revision 68, January 13, 2000
zs Division letter of June 29, 1999, Re: Hayden Gulch Mine (Permit No. C-8-003), Cessation of
water monitoring program
Hayden Gulch Mine Page 7 July 31, 2006
SL-04
