PROJECT SAFETY <br />The project sites, or work locations, are situated over an abandoned coal mine <br />fire. Surface temperatures near vents can exceed 500°F. The coal fire vents <br />emit gasses which are toxic: in high concentrations. Project safety is of <br />utmost importance, and any work deemed unsafe by the PROJECT MANAGER shall be <br />halted immediately without prejudice. <br />Work shall not proceed in Section 24 if only one person is on site. A minimum <br />of two persons will be required on site for work to proceed. Workers should <br />use the "buddy system" for checking on the safety of others and knowing their <br />locations at all times. <br />Men working around or over the fire area shall be under observation by other <br />personnel, or shall be in radio contact with other workers on the project. <br />Required Equipment <br />Rope <br />The CONTRACTOR shall have a minimum of 50 linear feet of rope at the site. <br />The rope shall contain no nylon, polypropylene or other plastic materials. <br />Fire Equipment <br />An ABC fire extinguisher with a 25 pound capacity shall be available on site. <br />In addition, shovels, blankets, buckets and a minimum of 100 gallons of water <br />shall be on site to fight brush fires which may start due to project work. <br />Radios <br />At least two walkie-talkies shall be on site, properly working and in use by <br />crew members working in different parts of the project area. The radios shall <br />have a minimum rated range of one quarter-mile. <br />Vehicles <br />A motor vehicle shall be available to any crew working on the site. <br />TASK 1.
