As stated in the permit application Energy Fuels
will plant approximately 10,000 seedlings per year using the following
tentative species composition list:
Species Number Percent _
Snowberry 4,000 40
Woods Rose 1,000 10
Hansen Rose 1,000 10
Honeysuckle 1,000 10
Chokecherry 2,000 20
Old ?fan Wormwood 1,000 10
Energy Fuels will plant additional native species such as bitter-
brush, serviceberry, oakbrush and aspen if supplies are available, but
will not plant exotic species other than those listed herein without prior
approval of the regulatory authority.
Planting stock will be adapted local nursery material with acceptable
root development and aclimation. Normally 1 - 0 stock will be planted.
Shrubs will be transplanted at the rate of approximately 500 plants per
acre. Spacing will be performed randomly across the landscape.
Front-End Loader Transplants
As stated in Energy Fuels' permit, approximately 40,000 trees and
shrubs per year will be transplanted by front-end loader from areas
scheduled for mining to areas ready for reclamation. The areas receiving
loader transplants will generally be those areas identified as aspen in
the premising plant communities. Emphasis will be given to the aspen
areas, although some shrub transplanting will be done in oakbrush and
mountain shrub communities.
Approximately 20,000 aspen will be moved annually as well as 10,000
serviceberry, 6,000 chokecherry and 4,000 oakbrush. Special care will be
taken to assure that clones are planted in depressions and draws which
have a natural setting and which collect above-average moisture. Clones
will be spaced across the hillside to provide cover and seed sources for
subsequent natural plant succession. Approximate stocking rate will be
between two and three clones per acre.
General Aooearance of Reclaimed Areas
It is difficult to accurately predict the appearance and composition
of postmining vegetation communities, but a reasonable picture is avail-
able from past reclamation at Energy Fuels' mines.
