Data collected at the Energy Fuels mines was presented to O.S.M.
via a letter addressed to Mr. Richard A. Mills of C.M.L.R.D. dated
January 14, 1980, wherein Energy Fuels provided documentation showing
seeding and transplanting to be successful methods of reestablishing trees
and shrubs.
Seeding Methodology
All lands that supported a premining vegetation community of either
low or tall sagebrush will be drill seeded with the following shrub spe-
cies and at the following rates:
Shrubs
Mountain Big Sagebrush
Artemisia tridentata spy.
Antelope Bitterbrush
Purshia tridentata
Rubber Rabbitbrush
Chrysothamnus nauseousus
Yellow Rabbitbrush
Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus
Saskatoon Serviceberry
Amelanchier alnifolia
Black Chokecherry
Prunus virginiana var.
melanocarpa
Woods Rose
Rosa woodsii
SHRUB TOTALS
Seedling Transplants
Bulk Pounds/ PLS lbs/
Acre Acre PLS /f t2
1.00 0.81 47.78
1.00 0.76 0.26
1.00 0.03 0.48
1.00 0.03 0.54
1.00 0.76 0.79
1.00 0.73 0.07
1.00 0.76 0.79
7.0 3.88 50.71
The previously referenced postmining vegetation maps of Eckman Park
and Energy Mines Number 1 and 2 show the areas to receive seedling trans-
plants. Basically premining vegetation areas containing oakbrush,
mountain shrub and aspen will be transplanted with both bareroot and
containerized shrub seedlings. The exact stocking requirements to be
utilized in each area are unknown due to the uncertainty of being able to
obtain native plant materials. It has been Energy Fuels' experience that
even the signing of contracts with nurserymen does not assure the avail-
ability of necessary plant materials. However, Energy Fuels will do
