Mr. Mark Loye
Ref: Neglected Kline ~ •
August 18, 1981
Page 3
Exhibit D
1. The projected disruption of a potential elk calving area will be
mitigated upon termination of operations at the mine and reclamation
of the site.
2a. Approximately 15 gallons of water per minute will be used in the opera-
tion. The water will be obtained from the existing mine.
b. All runoff will be diverted around the mine and mill site and then in-
to the natural drainage.
c. Waste disposal areas will be lined with hypalon to prevent seepage of
potentially toxic waters into the groundwater system.
3. The soil on-site is a somewhat stoney loam ranging up to 2.5 or 3 feet
in depth. All ~jvailable topsoil will be stripped and retained for use
in reclaiming the site.
Exhibit E
The plan for revegetating the site is based upon recommendations offered
by the Soil Conservation Service's Durango office following a visit to
the site. No tree species were included in the SCS's recommendations;
however, planting of Englemann spruce and Douglas fir saplings can be
incorporated into the revegetation plan.
2. To increase the diversity of the proposed seed mix, the following species
will be added:
- Yellow sweet clover (Metiotus officinalus)
at a rate of 2 lbs PLS/acre
- Timothy (Phleum pratense) at a rate of 7 lbs PLS/acre
3. The soil will bE~ tested by a qualified lab prior to seeding and amend-
ments will be meide as necessary.
4. The waste dumps will be sampled prior to revegetation to determine what
type of amendments are needed to create a suitable growth medium. Five
soil samples will be taken per acre in order to quantify variations in
the material. Each sample will be tested for major- and micro-nutrients,
salinity, pH and sodium absorption ratio. A fertilization plan will then
be developed and implemented prior to seeding.
5. All shafts used in underground mining will be sealed in accordance with
the best available technology and the surrounding areas will be topsoiled
and planted.
