Response:
The fuel tank east of the shop building is empty and has never been used. The fuel tank
off the northwest comer of the shop had an earthen containment structure; this tank has been
removed; there is no fuel spillage at this site.
Topsoil Stockpile:
A topsoil stockpile exists at the west end of the dump; stockpile is stable but could be
impacted by further dump expansion; this stockpile should be protected.
Response:
The topsoil stockpile remains and is stable; the location of the stockpile is shown on the
1" = 100' map submitted herewith.
East Expansion of Waste Dui:
The east toe of the waste dump has extended beyond the shape shown in earlier maps. If
the waste dump toe must be moved or channel structures installed, this should be shown on the
new maps which is required to be submitted.
Response:
The Operator submitted an updated site map in April 1998. This map did not provide the
information requested during the July 1997 Inspection. Anew and accurate map is submitted
herewith. The current map shows the current location of the dump toe and the channel diversion
structure around the east dump toe.
April 23, 1998 Lelter from Division:
Permit Area:
The Operator submitted a site map on April 18, 1998. The site map presented a 5-sided
polygon which does not conform to existing Permit boundary maps on file with the Division.
Response:
The Operator has submitted a new map herewith; this new map presents a Proposed
Affected Area boundary which completely encompasses all site disturbance and also provides for
future reclamation of the mine site.
Exceedance of Original Permit Boundary:
The map submitted in April 1998 shows disturbance on ground outside of the original
Permit boundary. Additionally, the revised 5-sided polygon submitted by the Operator would
appear to propose an acreage reduction.
Response:
The Operator understands that the map submitted in 1998 does not match the original
Permit boundary and that disturbance has occured outside of the original permit boundary. The
Operator proposes to modify the Affected Area boundary to encompass all site disturbance and
reclamation areas. The Operator will coordinate with Division staff to determine the most
effective manner to resolve the boundary revision matter.
The Operator wishes to note and emphasize that the east dump toe had encroached on the
drainage thalweg by the time that the July 1997 Inspection was conducted. The July 1997
Inspection coincided with the transferred receipt of the Permit to the current Operator.
