RESPONSES TO INSPECTION REPORTS
WEST SUNDAY MINE PERMIT M-1981-021
March 2003
The following review of items noted in Inspection Reports and Division correspondences, which
have been submitted to the Operator during the period that the current Operator has controlled
the Permit, is intended to clarify outstanding issues and to ensure no issues are overlooked.
July 10, 1997 Inspection by Bob Oswald and Harry Posey:
Permit Map:
No Permit boundary markers exist in the field; mine features are not accurately described
in the Division records. The lack of a current mining map and a current reclamation map is
specified as a Corrective Action item.
Response:
Although the Operator submitted a revised site map in April 1998, that map was not
complete enough to resolve the Corrective Action. Complete, current, and accurate site maps are
submitted herewith. Upon reaching concurrence with the Division on the incorporation of
outlying disturbances under this Permit, the Operator will prepare a final reclamation map.
Permit Identification Sien:
The Permit identification sign does not show the current Operator.
Response:
In January 2002 the Operator installed a correct Permit identification sign and provided
photographic evidence.
Permit Boundary Markers:
No corner markers exist to delineate the Affected Area boundary. All areas of surface
activity must be encompassed on the required maps.
Response:
The Operator has submitted a Proposed Affected Area boundary on the maps submitted
herewith. Upon reaching concurrence with the Division on the Affected Area boundary, the
corners will be marked in the field.
Oil Stained Soil Remediation:
In prior years, notice was made of oil stained soil that needed to be remediated. The
Operator (and the previous operator) aerated and bladed the oily spot. The problem has been
addressed and was abated.
Response:
The current Operator has continued to work on contaminated soil sites to ensure
remediation; site work was again conducted in November 2002.
Fuel Stora¢e Containment:
Skid-mounted fuel storage tank does not have adequate containment. Operator must
provide control and contain possible spillage.
