APPEKDIX II
1
Department of Anthropology
University of Colorado
Boulder, Colorado 80302
March 19. 1975
Mr. G. Lloyd Hayes
105 Palmer Drive
Ft. Collins, Colorado 80521
Dear Mr. Hayesi
' The Office of the State Archaeologist asked me to do a
field survey on the Cooley Gravel Company land holdings south
of Morrison, as requested by ,you.

1
1
1
1

1

1
1 spent about ten hours on March 18, doing a field check
of the areas you outlined in green on your map. which includes
parts of sections 10, 11, and 15, and Strains Gulch which
you denoted in blue. Joe Quist, a foreman at the quarry,
assisted me in acquainting myself with the area.
The quarry and adjacent areas where the original surface
had been removed could no longer have archaeological remains.
and thus were not surveyed. The remaining 500 acres, including
holdings along Turkey Creek and Strains Gulch, were examined
on foot.
Ho archaeological remains were locatedi thus the quarrying
will have no impact on archaeological resources. One archaeol-
ogical site along Strains gulch which would be potentially
affected, the LoDaisKa site. was excavated in the 1950'x.
This letter constitutes full archaeological clearance by
the Office of the State Archaeologist of the approximately
580 acres owned by the Cooley Gravel Company 1.5 miles south
of Morrison, It also recognizes .your full compliance with
state and federal laws governing the location and preservation
of archaeological remains. If any archaeological remains are
encountered during quarrying, it is the Cooley Gravel Company's
responsibility to contact the Office of the State Archaeologist.
Please find attached an
expenses incurred during the
days of fieldwork.
Thank you for ,your cooperation.
itemized list of salary anti
ane and one-fourth equivalent
Sincerely,
E.
