Some hidden cultural materials may only be
' revealed during the process of land alteration, trenching, leve:Lling,
arroyo cutting, etc. My primary concern is that these files might be
mistaken to be a complete statement of such resources, for they
certainly are not.
' Pl
k
d
d
i
d
L
d U
i
O
l
"
l
"
an
se
I have mar
the enc
ose
s
te recor
For
ann
ng
n
y
,
e
s
and in this Bence it is restricted information. We are anxious to
cooperatie with projects involved with impac[ statements, land use
planning, inventories, etc. However, unfortunately, we are concerned
that site locations not become a guide for irresponsible purposes.
Irreparable archaeological damage could be done if this information
led to the surface denudation or digging of sites by unauthorized
parties. We trust you will appreciate the potential difficulties we
face and will responsibly limit the circulation of the enclosed. site
' information.
This office deals only with archaeological material. For information
regarding historical sites in the area, contact Cynthia Emrick,
Preservation Assistant, State Historical Society of Colorado, 1880
Gaylord, Denver, Colorado, 80203 (Telephone 333-1672).
~ , As part of this file search I asked Dr. Judith Van Couvering, Curator
of Fossil VQrtebrates, University of Colorado Museum for information
' on the palaeontology of the area. The hforrison area can be productive
of fossils. The State Antiquities Law holds this office responsible
for palaeontological as we 11 as archaeological remains. According
to Dr. Van Couvering most of the area is Precambrian and there is
' little likelihood of significant palaeontological finds. Field workers
always keep such things in mind, however, and they would record
fossil materials if they came across them.
' I have made copies of the enclosed reports so that the field workers
will have them available when [hey go out in the field for the survey.
' Please let me know if you require further information.
Sincerely,
' , ~ N f fdtw`~-
' Hannah Huse
Survey Archaeologist
Office of the State Archaeologist
1
' :hh
