Technical Revision No.15, approved 1211193, included updates <br />of pond designs on the permit maps, including the emergency <br />spillway location and sizing. <br />1. There are no variances that apply to any of the sediment <br />ponds at either the mine site or loadout. EFCI has no <br />intention to construct additional sediment pond <br />structures. <br />2. All ponds meet the requirements of Rule 4.05.6 and are <br />inspected by a registered, professional engineer <br />quarterly. <br />More information an the Sediment ponds can be found in Section <br />2.05.3, pages 44R-49R and Maps 21-24 and 26-27 of the permit <br />application. <br />D. Acid-forming and Toxic-forming Spoil <br />No acid or toxic-forming materials have been identified as <br />occurring within the mine or loadout areas as a result of <br />chemical analyses of soils, coal, roof and floor materials, or <br />coal refuse. For comprehensive information on the results of <br />these tests, refer to Sections 2.04.6, 2.04.9 and Exhibit 9 of <br />the permit application. <br />E. Impoundments <br />No impoundments currently exist at the Southfield Mine site or <br />loadout. All containment structures have been re-structured <br />and fitted with silt fences per Technical Revisions No. 15 and <br />17, approved in 1993. <br />F. Surface and Ground Water Monitoring <br />1. The applicant will conduct monitoring of ground water in <br />a manner approved by the Division. The ground water <br />monitoring plan is as follows: <br />Ground water samples are measured semi-annually for the <br />parameters listed on page 2.04.7-16 of the permit <br />application. There are four ground water monitoring <br />wells - MW-10, MW-16, Mw-23 and MW-65. Mw-8 was <br />Southfield Mine Permit Renewal 03 <br />37 <br />
