sulfides. The analysis should be able to detect ai: least
.5$ 2n5, .5$PbS, .5$ Fes or FeS2, 1$CaF2, and .5$ Cu sulfides.
A major and trace element geochemical analysis mu~;t also be
performed. This analysis must include wet chemical analysis,
x-ray diffraction and x-ray fluorescence on representative
samples or the ore. A demonstration that the samples were
representative must also be included.
Nature of the tailings material. Leachate analyses of
representative samples of tailings material will be required.
Additionally, regular third-party monitoring of the tailings
stream would be required to ensure that the tailings remain
within parameters of the tailings impoundment design.
Tailings impoundment. Most likely, the tailings impoundment
will require some kind of liner depending on the nature of the
tailings material. The amount of hydraulic head on the liner
would have some bearing on the type of liner that would be
required. A plan for temporary tailings stabilization to
prevent blowing of the material off site would be required.
A plan for an impervious cap on the tailings impoundment after
the operation for final decommissioning would probably also be
required. This would depend on the nature of the tailings.
These are some of the concerns the Division would consider during
a review of a permit application for the Boulder Mill. Other
concerns may arise as data are studied and the proposed operation
and reclamation plans are reviewed.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Sincerely,
(/~""
Carl B.
