ENVIRONMENT, ING.
NOVEMBER 19, 1997
C'

PAGE 2
feet below the water line. Review of the Map Plat shows a typical cross section of the
north shore and the configuration of the existing slopes.
RECLAMATION PLAN
1. I have included a cross section on the Map Plat showing the slopes along the north side
of the existing lake. I also changed all three map exhibits to reflect the current and final
slope configurations. I discussed the Tamarisk issue with Mike Ripp and he is agreeable
to removing any Tameisk before final reclamation is complete. He said that the
Tamarisk below the water level is where the fish hang out. The Tamarisk appear to die
when the lake level rises and this dead vegetation provides protection for the smaller
fish. We proposed removing any Tamarisk that remain above the normal water line after
mining is complete on the west lake and replacing them with native willow. The willow
will come from other property Delta owns and may be a combination of clumps and
individual stakes. The clumps would replace the excavated Tameisk and the stakes
would be placed along the banks of the lake. The dead Tamarisk remaining below the
water line will be left as fish habitat. Your suggestion to us cleanout mud from ditches
and shallow ponds as a source of the aquatic vegetation is appreciated. We have a
settling pond that gets clean every couple of years and that would be a good source for
the seed stock. Once the west lake is dewater we will begin to spread this mud on the
Sh to lv slope so that when the water returns the seed stock will be in place.
Mike indicated that he does not want to take the Russian Olives out at this time and
understands that if they are listed that he will have to get a Technical Revision to
removed them. Thanks for the heads up on the possible listing.
MINING AND RECLAMATION MAP
1. [have attached scaled down copies of each Map Exhibit for your review. There aze two
minor changes from those I sent you last night. I changed the cross sections so A-A' is
on Map C and B-B' is on Map C-1. On the small scale copy of the Map Plat I added the
cross sections and the fence ownership table and moved the north arrow and legend
around to fit these on the plat. If these aze still ok let me know and I will plot the map
and send you copies. Will you approve the Amendment before you receive the blue-
prints so we can begin to work on the bond?
RECLAMATION COST ESTIMATE
2. Looks like we worked this out, 1 now understand why you need the commitment for our
pump cost estimates. After reviewing your latest numbers (11-19-97) I think it will save
us all time to use the Divisions unit costs for pumping the site. A bond amount of
$23,100 is acceptable to Delta. We understand that we can only have 10.0 acres
stripped; needing recoiling and revegetation at any one time. The slope configuration
committed to above must be maintained and reclamation will run concurrent with mining.
Thanks for your help with this.
LEGAL RIGHT OF ENTER
1. I understand.
