about 2 years to mine each area. Before mining the gravel deposits we will
salvage stumps and trees and stockpile these along the boundary for
reclamation use. We will then strip a minimum of 6" topsoil (growth medium) and
stockpile adequate amounts along the length of the south and west boundaries.
We will then strip overburden material and stockpile at the south and west
boundaries separate from topsoil stockpiles. We will take approximately 7 years
to complete the mining of this entire area. Slope reclamation should be
completed within 10 years. We will maintain 2H:1 V slope highwalls while mining.
Mining and reclamation will be performed to standards set by BLM contract
COC 64651 and in the attached "Proposed Method of Operation" submitted to
BLM prior to the signing of the above contract.
The soils in this area are classified as Ustollic Haplargids, fine-silty, mixed mesic.
Basically these soils are deep, well drained soils which overlay the gravel
deposits. The pH of this soil is neutral and there are no salts present that will
affect plant growth. Depth of the overburden ranges from 10' to 20'. The gravel
deposit under the overburden runs approximately 50' deep with shale deposit
beneath.
The primary and secondary commodities to be mined are Class 6 roadbase
and Class 2 roadbase. Other types gravel will also be extracted as needed.
These materials will be used primarily for roadbase. Secondary use is
structural fill, landscaping, filtering, etc.
I have bolded the items that are changes or additions to the current Mining Plan. Our
current reclamation plan should stand as is. I am enclosing a copy of the BLM contract
and "Proposed Method of Operation" submitted to BLM. I believe you already have
these, but wanted to make sure. We have tried to make sure the mining/reclamation
plan presented to BLM and the mining/reclamation plan presented to DMG are in line
with each other while meeting each agency's specific requirements.
Regarding Item 3 -The west working face highwall has had overburden pushed off it and
is reduced to the approved 2H:1 V grade per John Gilleland.
Regarding Item 4 - C & J Gravel Products, Inc. commits to notifying DMG prior to
affecting Phase 2, so the reclamation cost estimate can be recalculated to account for
any additional cost that may be associated with mining of that phase.
Regarding Item 5 -This was resolved with the prior submission of financial warranty to
the State of Colorado.
I hope this answers all your concerns. Please contact our office if you have any
questions.
Sincerely, -
.ly~~L~~~C,~„ ~U
J Gilleland "'T
O ice Manager
