RECLAMATION PLAN
CHANGES TO THE EXISTING RECLAMATION PLAN
Although the existing reclamation plan for the remainder of the operation is still quite suitable,
changes in the seed mixtures are necessary. The existing seed mixtures were developed in 1992 and a
lot has changed since then. Of particular importance is the fact that yellow sweet clover is now
discouraged in revegetation mixtures and should only be planted for particular situations. Although
this species does well in the sandy soils, due to its deep tap root, it also tends to be invasive and is
therefore usually considered a weed species. The existing seed mixtures are therefore changed to the
following.
Daniels Sand Pit #2 -Pit Bottom Mix - 2004 Modification of 1992 mix
Species Pounds Pure Live Seed/Acre
Thickspike Wheatgrass 1.0
Sand Bluestem 4.0
Sand Lovegrass 0.5
Pubescent Wheatgass 2.0
Cicer Milkvetch (Oxley varitety) 3.0
Tall Wheatgrass 3.0
Blue Grama 0.5
TOTAL PLS/ACRE = 14.0
NOTE: Drill seeding is highly recommended for the pit bottom. The rates in this seed mixture
assumes the seed will be drilled. For drill seeding, harrow and disc surface first. Rip all hazd areas or
compacted areas to a depth of at least 18" followed by discing.
If broadcast seeding of the pit floor is done (not recommended) then rip the entire area to a
depth of 18" to 24" followed by thorough discing and double the amount of seed.
Daniels Sand Pit #2 -Little Johnson Amendment - M-is~3-oo~ Exhibit E Page 7
