RECLAMATION PLAN
For the Pit Slopes the following new seed mix will be used:
Daniels Sand Pit #2 -Pit Slope Mix - 2004 Modification of 1992 mix
Species Pounds Pure Live Seed/Acre
Thickspike Wheatgrass 5.0
Sand Bluestem 6.0
Sand Lovegrass 0.5
Pubescent Wheatgrass 5.0
Cicer Milkvetch (Oxley variety) 4.0
TOTAL PLS/ACRE = 20.5
NOTE: Broadcast seeding is generally required for the pit slopes due to steepness. The rates in
this seed mixture assumes the seed will be broadcast. For broadcast seeding, loosen the soil as much
as possible prior to seeding. Break all azeas that show any degree of crosting. After seeding, drag the
slope with a screen or chain drag. It is very important to bury the seed on a slope to a depth of about 1
inch. In a very sandy soil that can be difficult and laborious to accomplish.
If the slope can be traversed by equipment, drill seeding often produces higher success rates.
No additional treatment is needed if the seed drill has discs in good condition that dig well into the
sand. For drilling in sandy soils, seeding should be %z to 1 inch. Sandy soils tend to be extremely
droughty if the seed is not planted deeply it often dies or fails to germinate due to a lack of moisture.
The only other changes in the current reclamation plan aze the modifications to the final
topography along the south side of the current permit azea east of Academy Boulevard. These were
done to accommodate the inclusion of the water treatment facilities. Those facilities were previously
excluded from the affected land by a technical revision, but, at that time, no changes in the
reclamation topography were built into the revision. Now that it is known what effect the remediation
program has on the operation those changes are made.
Also, in the current permit the reclamation topography uses a variable and sometimes
confusing reclamation contour sequence. This has been changed to include all contours using a five
foot contour interval.
Daniels Sand Pit #2 -Little Johnson Amendment - M-~s~3-oo~ Exhibit E Page 8
