Air pollution -Colorado Department of Health and Environment and Local Govemment
Jurisdiction
Hard Rock will not allow anyone to walk on the property. -Local Govemment Jurisdiction
10. The gravel pit is the only industry disturbing the general peace here. -Local Govemment
Jurisdiction
l 1. If the properly is under mining occupation the only river access available to hikers or fishermen
in the area is miles away. -Local Govemment Jurisdiction
12. If you choose to allow the company to continue gravel pit operations, please restrict them from
conducting any other type of industry. -Local Government Jurisdiction
13. An unsightly excavation adjacent to our residence is completely unthinkable. -Local
Government Jurisdiction
ISSUES RECEIVED DURING THE PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD THE DIVISION
BELIEVES ARE WITHIN THE JURISDICTION OF THE COLORADO MINED LAND
RECLAMATION BOARD AND THE DIVISION
The average depth of water wells are 90 to 100 feet and we feel that a deep pit would harm our
water source as well as the possibility of contamination from a gasoline or diesel spill.
(Kenneth and Beverly Coggins, Kathleen Mussetter, Curtis and Wrae Maupin, John Koehler)
2. There is no hydrology report for the azea in the application and the fact that the water table is 90
feet below the top surface of the pit azea and this is where all of the 180 residents get their wale[
supply. This must be addressed. (Kenneth and Beverly Coggins)
3.,r ~ As a family with a well and house inclose proximity, we aze concerned with underground water
pollution. (Richazd and Susan Wolfe)
These issues relate to Exhibit G of the application (Richard and Susan Wolfe)
DIVISION RATIONALE -ITEMS 1 - 3 ABOVE
The applicant states in his application that "The operation is not expected to directly affect surface or
ground water systems in the azea." The Division conducted a hydrologic review of the site and the
mining plan and agrees with the applicant. In accordance with Rule 6.4.7, the applicant is not required
to provide further water information.
The depth of gravel extraction is 20 - 50 feet. The objectors state that the water table is at a depth of 90
to 100 feet. No ground water will be exposed or impounded on site. No blasting is proposed for
mining the aggregate. There will be o asphalt or concrete batching operations at this mine site. If
small spills of petroleum products from equipment operation occur, it is very unlikely contaminants
would reach adjacent wells. The operator states that the well in the permit area will not be used in the
operation, but will be capped at the level of the pit floor.
-3-
