Delta Sand and Gravel CO.
M.L.R.B. Permit# M-77-020
November 13, 1997
Pit #1
WEED CONTROL
The site will be inspected each spring to see if Knapweed
has infested the disturbed area. If it appears there is a
problem, weed control will be initiated at that time. We will use
a mixture of "Curtail" herbicide mixed with a surfactant at a
rate of 3-4 quarts per acre being sprayed to control the weeds.
We may use similar unrestricted herbicides applied at the manu-
factures recommended rates as well, The weeds will be sprayed
between early May and early July weather permitting and we will
contact SCS at that time for guidance. Care will be taken to
keep the spray from reaching the lake. This will allow control
to begin before the flowers set. As we begin to get control of
the Knapweed, spraying may only be necessary on isolated areas
around the site. Spraying began in the summer of 1997 after a
Division inspection indicated control was needed. We will do
additional spraying this spring on areas where additional control
is needed.
It may also be necessary to control other weeds by mowing
after the first year; the feasibility of chemical weed control
methods will be studied should it be necessary. Nothing in this
plan should be considered as an intention to totally eradicate
all non noxious weeds from the seedbed. Experience shows that
some weed cover is beneficial to the reclamation effort. Weeds
tend to provide shade for new grasses, furnish a means to hold
snow on the seedbed and protect it from wind and water erosion
until the grass can take hold.
