feet of slotted 5 inch liner pipe will be installed to the bottom of the borehole extending
up into the 7 inch casing approximately 50 feet.
OMLLC does not plan to complete the boreholes as water monitoring wells. The
interval to be drilled above the D seam contains no aquifer.
Boreholes will be drilled using rotary drilling methods to the desired depth above the D
seam. If drilling muds are necessary to maintain circulation and borehole integrity, muds
that are free of metallic compounds will be utilized. Excess drill fluids maybe hauled
from the site or left to evaporate. Non-toxic, non-metallic polymers and foams maybe
used in the drill fluids to aid the drilling operation. Mud pits remaining after drilling and
demobilization is completed will be fenced or otherwise bamcaded to eliminate access by
wildlife.
All drilling and related operations will be conducted by experienced exploration drillers
in such a way as to minimize potential environmental impacts, and will be supervised by
a qualified geologist or engineer. Copies of permits will be available in the OMLLC
offices.
Contacts for the project include:
Ken Ball - 970-929-5122 (office) - 720-201-5645 (cell)
Doug Allen - 970-929-5122 (office) - 970-946-4797 (cell)
Jim Kiger - 970-929-5806 (office) - 970-261-8291 (cell)
During drilling, OMLLC will control dust from drilling and related activities, divert and
control both natural runoff from disturbed areas and fluid loss from drilling, and will
clean-up any trash or debris. If air is utilized as the circulation medium, dust from
drilling will be controlled by a flexible shroud at the drill collar. Drill cuttings and
portable pits or excavated mud pits will effectively contain drilling fluids as discussed
above.
All drilling equipment will be equipped with fire extinguishers and shovels in case there
is a fire. Oil waste, filters, etc. will be hauled offsite for proper disposal.
Site Operation
After the borehole casing has been completely set, a skid mounted methane pump will be
installed over the well head. The pump will be operated with the methane drawn from
the mine, and any excess gas will be vented into the atmosphere. Methane pumps will be
operated according to the requirements of the mine and could run for at least one year.
OMLLC has no plans to leave the open boreholes in place as future methane gas
production wells.
The drainage and sediment control system for the Elk Creek Mine gob vent boreholes
will be consistent with the previously constructed Sanborn Creek Mine gob vent
boreholes. The drainage and sediment control for the Elk Creek Mine borehole sites will
