be managed as a small area exemption with alternative sediment control provided by a
combination of perimeter sediment control berms/ditches and installation of straw bales,
straw waddles or silt fence, etc. to reduce flow velocity and trap sediment. To facilitate
the control of upland drainage, if the site is suitable, an upland clean water diversion will
be constructed to reduce overland flow into the effected area. CDMG Permit Map 2.05-
M4 (4th sheet) Drainage and Sediment Control Plan provides a typical example of a drill
pad lay out. Exhibit 2.05-E3, Drainage and Sediment Control Plan, Section 9, Revised
and New SAE's and Alternative Sediment Controls provides typical designs and
demonstrations for alternative sediment control and clean water ditch scenarios.
Proiect Reclamation
Borehole Abandonment
Upon completion of drilling and methane pumping activities, all mechanical apparatus
will be removed. All drill holes will be backfilled, sealed and abandoned. OMLLC has
investigated the condition of the steel casing after longwall mining subsidence and has
found substantial damage, separation and deformation in the casing. Because of this
damage, to facilitate abandonment, a plug will be lowered into the casing as far as
possible. A concrete seal will be established from the plug to at least within 10' of the
surface. Accumulations of drill cuttings and mud will be buried in the mud pit (if any).
Reclamation
Excavations, including mud pits, will be backfilled. Where mud pits are necessary, they
will be allowed to dry and/or backfilled with drill cuttings and/or previously excavated
material. During backfilling, the material will be mixed and compacted as it is replaced,
by running the equipment over the backfilled area during placement of successive lifts.
Following backfilling, disturbance areas, including temporary roads, will be graded to
their approximate original configuration and drainage will be reestablished. Any
salvaged topsoil materials will be re-spread onto the regraded surface. Shrubs, trees, other
organic matter and rocks removed during pad preparation and road construction maybe
incorporated onto the regraded surface prior to seeding to enhance reclamation and
erosion control of this disturbed site. A metal post will be placed in the vicinity of the
hole as a permanent marker. All trash and debris will be removed from drill sites for
disposal.
For pre-existing disturbance areas, the pre-disturbed configuration will be reestablished
as needed for future operations. For other disturbance areas, reclamation will be
completed after regrading by scarifying the regraded surface as needed, redistributing
stockpiled topsoil, and reseeding the area using the following seed mixture:
Species Broadcast Seedine Rate (Ibs PLS/acre)
Mountain Brome - Bromar 4.0
Prairie Junegrass 0.5
Western Wheatgrass - Amba 4.0
Indian Ricegrass 1.0
9
