Section 816.116(a) Continued.
Rule 4.15.7(2)(c)
Rule 2.05.4(2)(e)
Revised 11/21/80
Revegetation Success - Kerr Mine Area
Revegetation success will be measured through the use of reference
areas at the Kerr Mine Area. As shown on Map 18, Kerr Mine Area
Vegetation for each vegetation type which will he disturbed by
mining, a reference area has been established within the permit
boundary. The relationship of the reference areas to their corres-
ponding vegetation type was established by a process of sampling
and statistical analysis, as more fully discussed in Section 779.19.
In each case, the analysis determined that reference areas were
representative and could be used as a standard for the correspond-
ing vegetation types. A summary of analysis results is compiled at
Table 31, Summary of Statistical Analysis. Other than the acreages
used to weight the postmine reference area data, premine vegetation
work will be used to establish valid reference areas only and not
in the determination of revegetation success.
Revegetation will be deemed successful when the weighted cover and
production on the revegetated site is equal to or greater than 90
percent of the weighted cover and production from the relevant re-
ference areas. If the revegetation value is less than the re-
ference area value, a one tailed t-test will be performed to deter-
mine if the standard has been reached statistically. Revegetation
success has been met when the calculated "t" is equal to or less
than the "t" value from the one tail "t" distribution table. The
formula to be used is given on page 13 'braft: A Statistical Eval-
uation on Coal Lands in the West," L. L. Larson, OSM, Revlon V,
February 26, 1980. The formula reads:
tc - X1 _ AZ
52 + aZ
nl nZ
816-156 a
