Upon completion of topsoil stripping, the site will be graded to the liner subgrade
elevation indicated by the Construction Drawings. Work will include excavation of
the below-grade portion of the pond and embankment fill placement along the pond
perimeter. Embankment and structural fill will be constructed from on-site soil in
controlled lifts with a maximum compacted thickness of 12 inches, and compacted in
accordance with the Construction Specifications. The liner subgrade in the below-
grade portion of the pond that is excavated in native soils will be graded to achieve a
smooth surface, moisture conditioned (if necessazy), and compacted in accordance
with the Construction Specifications.
Liner Section
The compacted soil liner layer will be placed in lifts to achieve a maximum
compacted thickness of 6-inches to satisfy the required density. As described above,
specific material and placement specifications will depend on the results of the
detailed geotechnical evaluations that aze underway. It is anticipated that QA/QC
testing for the compacted soil liner layer will include gradation (ASTM D422) and
Atterberg limit (ASTM D4318) testing, Standard Proctor (ASTM D698) compaction
tests, and field density testing (ASTM D3107, ASTM D2922, ASTM D1556).
The protective soil layer will be placed immediately after completion of the
compacted soil liner layer. The protective soil layer will be placed in two lifts with
compacted thicknesses of 12 inches and compacted in accordance with the
specifications.
Pumpin¢ Vault
The pumping vault will be constructed from precast concrete s or from cast-in-place
concrete. Pipe penetrations in the pumping vault will also be grouted. Prior [o
construction of the vault, the foundation will be inspected, loose or soft materials will
•
Battle Mountain Resources, /nc.
