Revised June 13, 1984
Road and Surface Facility Area Reclamation
The reclamation of haul roads and areas around surface
fac ilities will require the top 1 foot of material be removed and
pla ced in a pit and then ripped to a depth of 3 feet. Once this
has occurred, the area will be topsoiled and reveyetated.
1. 22.4 acres need reclamation (see page 7).
2. Volume of material to remove and haul to pit = 22.40 acres x 1
foot deep x 43,560 sq. ft/acre = 36,100 cy
27 cf/cy
3. Haul distance 2,000 ft. average
4. Cost to return material to the pit:
a. Use 657 PP scraper @ 5178.54/hr
b. Haul distance = 2,000 ft.
c. 657 can move 408 cy/hr (808 eff., 68 RR, 08 grade),
adjusted for altitude, 408 x .905 = 369 cy/hr
d. Hours required = 36,100 cy = 98 hrs.
369 cy/hr
98 hrs. x 5176.54 = S 17,500
5. Costs of ripping road surface
a. Surface ripped to a depth of 4 feet (includes 1 foot to
be removed)
b. 22.40 acres to be ripped, volume to rip = 22.40 x 4 x
43,560 = 144,600 cy
27
c. Use a Cat D-9 dozer with single shank ripper
d. D-9 can rip 400 cy/hr (see page 57 in Cat Handbook and
correct for operator and job conditions)
Operator 0.79
Visibility 0.9
Efficiency 0.84
14
