Bowie Resources Limited June 29, 1998
Request for Emergency Drill Hole
and therefore all correspondence should be directed to the permit holder of the Bowie No. 2
Mine, C-96-083.
Map
A map is enclosed depicting the topography and location of the emergency drill hole site and its
relationship to the permit boundary, the coal ownership and surface ownership. Additionally the
route used for access is delineated from the mine portal bench.
Description of Activities
The emergency drill hole is located in the roadbed of an earlier coal exploration road and has been
previously disturbed. This roadway runs along the top of a relatively narrow ridge that separates
the valley of the North Fork of the Gunnison River from Freeman Gulch, a tributary to Hubbard
Creek. Vegetation is primarily mountain shrub consisting of oak brush (Gambel Oak) and sparse,
dry gasses.
Drilling Method and Depth of Drill Hole
The emergency drill hole will be drilled to an approximate depth of 1,110 feet and will be
geophysically logged but not cored. No cuttings pits will be necessary, as plans are being
made to drill this hole with air only. DH-13 will simply be reamed out or re-cased as
necessary to restore its function as a ground water monitoring well
Topsoil Salvage
No topsoil is available for salvage from these sites or the access to them. The sites are
located on an old roadway along a wind blown ridge with the surface consisting of sand,
broken rock and slick rock surfaces.
Earth Moving
The emergency drill hole site has been chosen for its flat characteristics and accessibility
and will require minimal to no earth moving. No cuttings pits are necessary. The original
drill pad for DH-13 remains. Bowie Resources Limited will disturb this site only
minimally during the refurbishing and will reseed this area as needed.
Seed Miz
During reclamation, seed mix as described in the permit application will be applied to re-
establish the sparse vegetation that this high, arid ridge will sustain.
Aquifers
Bowie Resources does not anticipate encountering any signiflcant aquifers in the course of
the drilling of this emergency drill hole, although the Rollins Sandstone and lenticular but
occasionally thick sandstone units in the coal-bearing interval of the Williams Fork
Formation to be tested do frequently contain some water.
t
2
