The mine began operation in August of
1997 and currently produces coal from two underground coal producing sections employing
continuous mining methods. Both operating sections are developing main entry systems for
future room and pillaz production.
During June of 1998, the 1" Main East section has encountered an unanticipated `split' in the coal
seam. This split is filled with high ash material and must be taken with the coal seam. This high
ash material is increasing the ash in the saleable product of the Bowie No. 2 Mine and therefore
reducing realization, customer satisfaction and availability of this section.
An emergency drill hole is needed to identify the azeal extent of this split and high ash material in
order that prudent actions may be taken to limit the ash in the saleable product. This drill hole is
projected (see attached Map) within the permit boundary of the Bowie No. 2 Mme and on land
(and coal) owned by Bowie Resources Limited.
Drill Hole 13 (DH-13) is currently listed as a ground water monitoring well in the permit
application and in the Annual Hydrology Report required by that application. Currently, this well
has closed up and can no longer be monitored for field or laboratory pazameters. Bowie
Resources Limited has agreed in the past with the Division of Mmerals & Geology to refurbish
this monitoring well. Bowie Resources Limited plans to clean this hole out and restore its
monitoring value as a part of this emergency drill hole project.
Location
Township 13 South, Range 91 West, 6m P. M.
Section 10: NE'hNE'/a (Emergency Drill Hole)
Section 2: SW'/aSW'/. (DH-13)
In Eastern Delta County Colorado.
Ownership
Surface: Private
Minerals: Private
Correspondence Information
This emergency hole will be drilled within the current permit boundary of the Bowie No. 2 Mme
