Nine species of perennial grasses, one perennial forb, and
two shrubs/subshtubs were observed within this site (Table 8). Of the perennial grasses surveyed,
' western wheatgrass, green needlegrass, and Indian ricegrass were the dominant with relative cover
values of 28.1, 14.6, and 11.7 percent, respectively. Alfalfa was the perennial forb which
accounted for 1.2 percent relative cover. Gray rabbitbrush and Wood's rose accounted for 1.2
' and 1.8 percent relative cover within this site. Absolute vegetative cover accounted for 14.4
percent.
' Revision 1
' Vegetation cover transect results show four of the eight perennial grasses observed within this area
to have relative cover values of 3.0 percent or higher (Table 9). Five perennial fortis had relative
cover values ranging from 0.7 to 2.2 percent. Absolute vegetative cover was 13.2 percent.
Dryland Reference Area
The dryland reference area had a mean absolute cover value of 8.5 percent compared to values
ranging from 9.3 to 14.7 percent within the reclaimed mine area (Table 10). Blue grama
' dominated the dryland reference area with a 44.6 percent relative cover. Red three-awn,
galletagrass, western wheatgrass, and Indian ricegrass comprised the remaining perennial grasses
which had relative cover values ranging from 1.2 to 6.0 percent.
