' Vegeralian Samp(in¢ for 7996
' West Slope 1984
This area was predominantly western wheatgrass comprising 70.5 percent of the relative cover
' (Table 1). The remaining perennial grass ground cover is Indian ricegrass, slender wheatgrass,
and smooth brome, consisting each of 2.7 percent relative cover and streambank wheatgrass and
crested wheatgrass each making up 0.9 percent relative cover. Alfalfa was the dominant approved
perennial forb encompassing 1.8 percent of the relative cover. Absolute vegetative cover for this
area was 9.3 percent.
' West Slope 1991
' This area was dominated by perennial cool season grasses (fable 2). Results from the vegetation
cover [ransects reveal green needlegrass as the dominant perennial grass with 36.8 percent of the
relative cover. This species was followed by western and slender wheatgrass with 28.9 and 13.2
' percent relative cover, respectively. Meadow Fescue and Indian ricegrass each have relative cover
values of 2.6 percent. Absolute vegetative cover was 10.7 percent.
Topsoil Stockpile
' The topsoil stockpile area was dominated by five species of perennial cool season grasses (Table
3). Western wheatgrass is dominant at 66.0 percent of the relative cover, followed by slender
wheatgrass and squirreltail, comprising 19.1 and 4.3 percent relative cover. respectively. Crested
' and streambank wheatgrass each have relative cover values of 2.1 percent. Absolute vegetative
cover for this area was 14.7 percent.
' Top Slope
' This site encompasses a small area which was dominated by western wheatgrass and green
needlegrass, 37.1 and 31.4 percent relative cover, respectively (Table 4). Indian ricegrass was
also observed within this area, resulting in 2.9 percent of the relative cover. Absolute cover for
' this area was 9.7 percent.
South Slope
Results from the vegetation cover transects surveyed within the South Slope reveal this area to be
diverse, probably due to the combination of flat and sloped surfaces included in the area. Nine
perennial grasses, seven cool season and two warm season, were observed with relative cover
values ranging from 0.8 to 38.7 percent (Table 5). Western and slender wheatgrass are the
' dominant cool season grasses consisting of 38.7 and 10.9 percent relative cover, while blue and
side-oats grams comprised 14.3 and 10.1 percent relative cover of the warm season grasses.
Alfalfa and hairy golden aster were the dominant perennial forbs each consisting of 1.7 percent
' of the relative cover. Absolute vegetative cover was 10.3 percent.
RYnY OSJ~FbrtM1 19. 199] A-17
