• Southfield Mine Minor Revision Request No. 20 -South Fan Installation • /1
Clear and Grade Site and Establish Temporary Stockpile
The proposed fan installation will be on the existing portal bench and will
utilize the existing foundation structures to the extent possible. Associated
earthwork requirements are, therefore, expected to be minimal. EFCI will
clear and grade the area immediately adjacent to the portal to facilitate
installation of the fan housing and associated equipment. Grading will
include removal of any fill material previously placed to limit access to the
portals and any material which has sloughed off the adjacent highwall.
EFCI estimates a maximum of approximately 200 cubic yards will need to
be removed and placed in a temporary stockpile for use in future site
reclamation.
Site clearing and grading will be accomplished using a wheel loader and/or
• tracked dozer and excess material will be hauled to the stockpile by either
the loader or arear-dump truck. The proposed stockpile location, covering
approximately 0.05 acres, is within the previously disturbed area on the
west side of the existing light-use road as shown on the South Mine Fan
Installation Map, (Map 30). The stockpile will be a maximum of
approximately 5 feet in height, will be constructed in sequential horizontal
lifts with sideslopes graded to 3H:1 V, and will be stabilized by seeding with
the temporary seed mixture described by Table 33, Proposed Temporary
and Permanent Seed Mixtures and Seeding Rates, in the EFCI permit
document.
Open Fan Portal and Stabilize Surrounding Highwall Areas
Once any fill material covering the portal opening is removed, any loose
• material around the portal will be excavated. In addition, adjacent highwall
areas will be scaled to remove loose rocks or other materials. As
appropriate to maintain stability, minimize potential hazards and facilitate
~¢ lam. • P.O. Bay TIblB • 9~amboar SprNgr, Cobrodo gNTI • (303~7R626a
