5.0 OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE
The spray evaporation system is expected to be operated for a maximum of two seasons, summer
1999 and summer 2000. As mentioned in Section 3.0, predictive modeling indicates that the
water level in the reclaimed West Pit can be lowered IS feet in 88 days. If the weather
conditions aze significantly different during the summer of 1999 than those used for the
modeling, then additional time may be required to achieve this goal. Monitoring will be
continuous throughout operations to assure the system is functional and operates within state
guidelines for environmental preservation.
5.1 Monitoring
Monitoring will include the following:
• Water level monitorine in the West Pit: The water level in the West Pit will be monitored to
ensure that the water level is lowered to an elevation of 8,580 feet.
• Well production monitorine for delivery to the holdine pond: The flow rate from the
pumping wells will be monitored to ensure ma~cimum possible delivery to the holding pond.
• Holdine pond water surface elevation: The water level in the holding pond will be monitored
to ensure head requirements for the primary and secondary pumps, and to maintain a
maximum of 0.~ feet of freeboazd.
• Flow rate monitorine to the individual spray evaporators: Flow meters will be installed at the
control valves for each of the spray evaporators to monitor delivery rates to the individual
evaporators.
• Wind direction and wind speed monitoring The wind speed and direction at the site will be
monitored to minimize that spray from the evaporators is not transpoRed outside of the lined
azea. In addition visual inspection of the area will be performed during periods of high
winds. In the event that spray drift is observed to be collecting on surfaces outside the
evaporation azea, the independently controlled spray evaporation stations can be directionally
adjusted or shutdown completely to limit spray drift.
• Diversion channel erosion monitorine: The diversion channel will be periodically inspected,
after any significant storm events for any evidence of erosion. Repairs wil9 be made to
ensure channel capacity and erosion stability are maintained.

Battle Mountain Resources, /nc.
