IV. RATEGr r1LL
According to annual hydrology reports from the Roadside Mine, the inflows vary with time and
can't be measured directly. Data indicate that the inflow has varied between roughly 200 and
300 gallons per minute (gpm). These data aze summarized in Attachment 2. Currently,
approximately 30 gpm are discharged from the south mains sump through the south portal
dewatering pipe.
Empirical data presented in the 1999 annual hydrology report (Roadside Annual Hydrology
Report, Table M99-4) indicate that the change in water level (elevation of the surface of the
pool) equates to 1 foot elevation change for every 2,300.000 gallons of inflow (Attachment 3).
Calculations are presented using two possible rates of inflow - 200 gpm and 300 gpm (gallons
per minute). Time to fill is calculated assuming that no other discharge is occuring from the
mine -all inflow is added to the pool. The calculations presented below correlate closely with
similar projections provided by J.E. Stover and Associates (Attachment 2).
At a rate of 200 gpm inflow,
(200 gaUmin) x (1440 min/day) = 288,000 gaUday water added to the nw intake pool
Since the elevation of the pool rises 1 foot with each 2,300,000 gallons, the level would rise
0.125 feet per day if 200 gpm water were added to the pool.
(288,000 gal/day) x (1 ft rise/2, 300, 000 gal) = 0.125 frrise/day or 7.98 days per foot.
To elevate the pool from the siphon intake to the floor of the portal would take 55.9 days.
To elevate the pool at that rate to the roof of the portal would take 119.85 days.
At a rate of 300 gal/min inflow
(300 gaUmin) x (1440 min/day) = 432,000 gal/day water added to the nw intake pool
Since the elevation of the pool rises 1 foot with each 2,300,000 gallons, the level would rise
0.188 feet per day if 300 gpm water were added to the pool.
(432,000 gal/day) x (I ft rise/2, 300, 000 gal) = 0.188 ftrise/day or 5.32 days per foot.
To elevate the pool from the siphon intake to the floor of the portal would take 37.27 days.
To elevate the pool at that rate to the roof of the portal would take 79.8 days.
