in the area. We know the present problem is knapweed, specifically located on the dry
cropland and in the NE comer of the existing area extending down into the creek
drainageway. Doug Davis of Customized Weed Spra}'ing has sprayed these azeas this fall
:tnd has an agreement with us to spray at certain intervals. We plan to inspect and spray
cordon ut the fall and spring as needed to control the knapweed problem. At that time, we
will also inspect for any additional noxious weeds that may be occurring due to disturbance
of the land. Our goal is to eradicate the noxious weed problem at this pit. Our last visit to
the site on October 20, 2000 showed the knapweed problem to be well under control.
We do not anticipate having lube facilities in the area, however we will have fuel tank
storage. We will construct a containment berm surrounding the tank storage areas. The
azeas will be lined with impermeable liners to ensure split fuel or fluids do not escape and
degrade quality of ground and surface waters.
We plan to avoid any expansion into La Boca Canyon, specifically in the northwest comer of
the pertnit area: 'Ji/e will stay at least 100' away from the rim of the canyon with any mining
activity. We aze aware that the "canyon rim" becomes somewhat indistinguishable as the
canyon extends northwest. Please see the Mining Plan Map, Exhibit E that shows where
mining will stop along the can}'on edge. We will be aware of this azea and take steps to
assure the existing vegetation along the rim is intact to eliminate any unusual mnoff. If this
requires re-seeding, we will do that Additionally, we will construct a berm along the line
showing where mining will stop. This berm will continue along the north boundary of the
pit towazd the road. We believe this will keep runoff from entering the canyon. We will
have haybales strategically placed throughout the pit as noted on the map to reduce the
sediment and help prevent mnoff out of the pit area. The existing eazthen contour ditch on
the hill in the amended area will help send any run off to the pond across the road until that
area is mined out.
Exhibit D -Reclamation Plan
The proposed topsoil replacement and revegetation in this amendment application is to be
for the entire proposed 9.9 acres as needed with the exception of the pit floor which will
remain an equipment storage area.
Presently the reclamation tasks are based on any two acres at any one point in time. Upon
reconsideration, we would like to propose that the reclamation tasks be based on any tluee
acres at any one point in time. Mining and reclamation tasks ate scheduled on an ongoing
basis.
Exhibit E -Mining and Reclamation Maos
Greystone, an independent consulting firm based out of Denver prepared the mining and
reclamation maps. However, since the maps were revised recently, m}' signature is on them.
The small building located neaz the entrance to the existing pit will be moved when mining
commences to allow room for a haul road. This haul road will extend east as mining
progresses. The loader will be stored alongside the topsoil stockpile. The crashing
equipment will have to move along with the mining progress.
