None ofthese species were observed at or neazthe site. <br />SOM 53 occurs on a high ridge top at the end ofanATV/4 wheel drive trail approximately 1/4 mile south <br />ofthehighpressurehose. Thereisadisturbedmeadowdominatedbygrassesandforbs,approximately <br />100 feet in diameter. This open azea is surrounded by dense Gambel'soak, and there are servicebeny <br />and chokecherry stands interspersed. <br />Several sensitive species may occasionally use this type ofhabitat, and may be present at the site. These <br />species include: pygmy shrew, dwazfshrew, fox sparrow, and Lewis' woodpecker. Individuals of these <br />species may utilize this habitat at times, but this is not preferred habitat for any ofthe species. There is not <br />suitable raptor nestinghabitat within 1/4 mile ofthe site. None ofthese species were observed at or neaz <br />the site. <br />SOM 123 is located just west and downslope ofsite 96-27-1. It is 1/4 mile noith of Sylvester Gulch and <br />is approximately 7,900 feet above mean sea level (MSL). The site is chazacterized by a thick, mid-aged <br />Gambel's oak stand interspersed with chokecherry and servicebeny. Some Gambel's oak, chokecherry, <br />and serviceberrywill be removed as a result ofthe drill pad. The site is on top of a bench leading up to <br />the West Flatiron. The site is accessed by an existing ATV/4 wheel drive trail that will require minimal <br />grading prior to drilling. <br />Several sensitive species may occasionallyuse this type ofhabitat, and maybe present at the site. These <br />species include: dwazfshrew, fox sparrow, merlin, and Lewis' woodpecker. Individuals ofthese species <br />mayutilizethishabitatattimes,butthisisnotpreferredhabitatforanyofthespecies. There is not suitable <br />raptor nesting habitat within 1/4 mile ofthe site. None of these species were observed at orneaz the site. <br />SOM 126 is located at an elevation of7,540 feet above MSL just south ofthe existing high pressurehose <br />_ and is along the access road. The site occurs in a valleyin an aspen grove. The understory is hawthorn, <br />andchokecherry,withGambel'soakontheslopesabovethesite. There is also someWestemsnowbeny <br />_'~ and dense grasses at the site. There aze also two ponds located just west of the site in the valley. <br />Many ofthe aspen trees at this site have nesting cavities, and there were many active birds in the azea. <br />There is at least onenorthemflickercavitynestinoneoftheaspens. Sensitive species that mayoccurhere <br />include: boreal toad, tiger salamander, northern leopard frog, milk snake, pygmy shrew, dwazf shrew, <br />purple martin, black tern, and Lewis' woodpecker. Some aspen trees would be removed as a result of <br />the drill pad, but the ponds would not be directly disturbed. Greystone recommends moving the proposed <br />drill pad up slope to the east to avoid the potential impacts to cavity nesters and the two ponds. There aze <br />cliffstothenorthofthesitethatmayprovidepotentialraptornestingopporturrities. Noraptornestswere <br />observed in these cliffs or in aspen trees at the site. None ofthese species were observed at orneaz the <br />site. <br />RAV 2 is located on the top of West Flatiron and consists oflazge, partlydisturbed meadows surrounded <br />by Gambel's oak, interspersed with sage, grass, and wild flowers. The site is located at 8,500 feet above <br />
