disturbed area were primarily Pinion-Juniper woodland or dry shrub community. Both
had very little herbaceous growth. The reclaimed vegetative community will be
perennial grass community with some forbs and shrubs in low percentages.
The Revised Universal Soil Equation (RUBLE) as seen below can describe the soil loss
for defined area.
A=RxKx(LxS)xCxP
Where:
A =Soil loss in tons/year per acre
R =Rainfall Factor
K =Soil Erodibility Factor,
L x S =Length Slope Factor,
C =Cover Factor, and
P =Erosion Control Factor
Because very little material was actually mined and site terrain remains the same as prior
to mining the variables to determine erosion are greatly reduced. The purpose of this
requirement is to show that:
A Rulaimed ~ A Premine⢠
This is expressed can be proved by the following:
R Reclaimed X K Reclaimed X (L X S) Reclaimed X C Reclaimed X P Reclaimed ~
R Premine X K premine X (L Premine X S Preminel x C Premine X P Premine
R Reclaimed = R Premine because the site location has not changed therefore the
Rainfall factor has not changed
K Reclaimed = K Premine because the site's soil was salvaged and replaced
L x S Reclaimed - L x S Premine because the site's topography has not changed
P Reclaimed = P Premine because the both the premine and reclaimed site have
special erosion control structures
The following must be proved;
C Reclaimed ~ C Premine
This is easily proved first by the fact that site has passed its vegetative cover requirement,
and secondly by the difference in vegetation community. The premining community was
a shrub-based community. While reclamation community is a grass community.
