Following the final siting of proposed roads and drill sites, biological surveys were initiated. Biological field surveys took place May 28, 2004 and again from June 1-2, 2004. A survey of potential threatened and endangered species habitats was conducted within half a mile of each proposed drill site. Biologists canvassed the areas by traveling in 4x4 vehicles and on foot in areas inaccessible by vehicles. Access was limited in some areas due to steep terrain and dense vegetation.
