area. In some areas, additional topsoil and catch basins may be required; in
other areas, polyacrylamides and/or drip irrigation will be employed more
extensively. Each area will need to be planned and treated independenl:ly, but
the visual effects of additional reclamation of the entire site must be integrated to
maximize a pleasing visual result.
B) PItCEVIEW QUARRY
As explained more fully in the Mountain Scar Commission final
report, this Pikeview quarry presents different reclamation problems from the
Queens Canyon quarry. Mining at Pikeview will continue as approved by state
law and as recommended in the Mountain Scars Final Report, in order to provide
soil resource, and to provide financial means to facilitate additional reclamation .at •
this and other sites. The previously mined area, mined by Peter Kiewit and
Company prior to Castle Concrete Company ownership, is extremely steep. The
primary means of providing more moderate, stable slopes which would hold
topsoil and facilitate revegetation, would be to continue mining activity at the sitE;,
such that geotechnically stable land forms remain suitable for revegetation
amendments. Given the steep slopes and other stability factors, the texture
modification solutions suggested for Queens Canyon will not be adequate at
Pikeview.
Due to the above circumstances, the general guidelines for
additional reclamation of the Pikeview quarry are as follows:

-6-
