4. TOPSOIL: In order to maximize revegetation success,
additional topsoil will be placed at selected locations. Decisions as to specific
amounts of additional topsoil will depend upon cost and difficulties involved in
transporting topsoil to the site, on existing soil conditions, necessary topsoil
protection measures, and the projected benefits to be derived from improving the
growth medium.
5. SHEEP: New tree shrub growth at the Queens Canyon
quarry will be protected from foraging and destruction by bighorn sheep and
other wildlife species.
6. ANALYSIS: If reclamation analysis shows That manipulation
of the land surface will enhance the texture and color, this will be incorporated for
• consideration under the planning steps in Section II.
7. MINING: All normal mining and removal of aggregate
resources at the Queens Canyon quarry has been permanently halted. Some
additional material may be removed as part of the additional reclamation effort,
but, for all intents and purposes, mining has been completed at this site, and
only reclamation-related activities will go forward.
8. INTEGRATED PLAN: The Queens Canyon quarry, for
purposes of reclamation, engineering and planning, has been divided into sub-
areas in the report of the Governor's Mountain Scar Commission.
The different geology, soil, slope, aspect, erosion control needs,
and hydrology characteristics of each area necessitates that different
• combinations of the reclamation techniques suggested above be applied to each
-5-
