The review and recommendations of the EI Paso County/Colorado • <br />Springs Mining Reclamation Advisory Committee. <br />These guidelines are designed to address visual problems at the <br />Queens Canyon, Pikeview and Snyder quarries. The mining at <br />Snyder quarry, however, presents a different degree of reclamation <br />requirements. The primary focus of the following reclamation <br />factors is on the Queens Canyon and Pikeview quarries. Flowever, <br />these same guidelines and factors are also applicable in varying <br />degrees to Snyder quarry. <br />A) QUEENS CANYON QUARRY <br />1. TEXTURE: At the Queens Canyon quarry the texture, rather <br />than the form, of the reclaimed site may have the most dramatic, cost-effective <br />impact on visibility and aesthetic quality of the site. <br />2. VEGETATION: The most critical element of texture at the <br />site is vegetation. New vegetation will be varied in color, size and type, and will <br />be planted to form a visual link and transition, compatible with mined areas and <br />the adjacent treed slopes. <br />3. WATER: The most crucial variable in determining success of <br />new vegetation at the site is water. Therefore, a drip irrigation system will be <br />installed, Or polyacrylamides will be used, or both. Both are designed to assure <br />establishment of new tree and shrub growth on the site, and a success ratio <br />considerably better than that which would be expected without supplementary <br />irrigation, and/or growth amendments. <br />• <br />-a- <br />
