Mr Kent Gorham
October 23, 1997
Page 2
4. Postmining topography for drainage ways at the New Elk Mine have been designed. Page 2.05-
46 of the text has been revised to indicate the design parameters. Map 17, Postmining
Topography and Cross Sections, has been revised to indicate the final topographic configuration.
A new map, Map 13B, Postmining Topography Drainage Basins, shows the drainage basins
associated with the postmining topography and routing of water. Design criteria and parameters
for drainages have been included in Exhibit 19, Hydrologic Balance of Surface Runoff.
5. Concerning the road through the upper Apache Canyon vent shaft site, Picketwire requests that
the Division approve the road as a permanent structure. Pages 2.05-8 and 2.05-50 have been
revised to indicate that this light use road will remain following mine reclamation.
6. As a result of our review of the permit document maps, three copies of the following maps with
the latest revision date are attached. These dates vary from the dates in the comment letter due
to maps being revised as a result of changes associated with the Golden Eagle Mine area and the
received date stamp issued by the Division. Also, some maps lack certification completed by
Wyoming Fuel or Basin Resources engineers who are no longer associated with the project.
However, no changes are being made to these maps which would require certification.
Map 5, Geology, dated 1/26/90.
Map 7, Geologic Cross Sections, dated 8/19/86.
Map 10, Vegetation, dated 911/89.
Map 12, Surface Facilities & Roads, West Portal, dated 3/2/94.
Map 13, Sediment and Surface Water Control Plan, East Portal, dated 10/6/95.
Map 13A, Sediment and Surface Water Control Plan, Silo Area, dated 10/27/95.
Map 14, Sediment and Surface Water Control Plan, West Portal, dated 12/2/93.
Map 15, Surface Disturbance/Post-mining Land Use, East Portal, dated 12/10/86.
Map 16, Surface Disturbance/Post-mining Land Use, West Portal, dated 12/10/86.
Map 17, Post-mining Topography and Cross Sections, dated 12/12/86.
Map 20, Structure Inventory, dated 7/13/95.
Map 21, Non-coal Waste Disposal Area, dated 10/14/85.
Map 23, There is no map associated with this number.
