Some old road cuts are visible and vegetation has not invaded the
roadway due to the hard surface and deep compaction. Bp backfilling the
area to a depth of from zero feet on the east end to as much as 15 to 18
feet on the vest end, a much better plant growth medium can be produced,
the north side of the drainage channel can be made to look like the
south side, and the old road area can be blended topographically with
the slope to the north of the drainage channel corridor.
Waste rock and fines from the quarry will be used as backfill. It
is known that deposition of only limestone waste would not be wise due
to the erodibility of the material as yell as the difficulty with
revegetating the material. It is not known whether soil will be
available for coverage of the fill area, but if soil can be acquired
from a "donated^ source then the area would undoubtedly be topsoiled.
No topsoil exists on the area to be backfilled which could be salvaged
and replaced. As will be described later, the area will be revegetated
using the same highly successful mixture used on the area to the south
of the drainage channel. Some compaction will be done while
backfilling, but not to the extent the roadway exhibits.
REVEGETATION OF AREAS: Revegetation of the regraded east end of the
shop slope will use methods already described in previous documentation.
Revegetation of the sediment basin area as well as the backfilled old
access road will use methods identical to those utilized on the area
south of the drainage course. That seed mixture produced a high rate of
success and seems to be a very fast cover producer.
The banks of the drainage channel will be approzimately 3:1 and
will also be seeded. Depending upon available moisture on the drainage
channel banks. trees (Cottonwood) may also be planted.
Page 5 of 6 Pikeview TR N0.6 July 1987
