floors, columns, foundations, etc., would require additional work, and thus were assigned
a separate demolition value based on the volume of cencrete.
Quotes for the demolition were collected from Burnett and Sons, Inc. Concrete Crushing
and Recycling in Athens, Texas, Porta-Crushers in Littleton, Colorado, and Alpine
Demolition in Arvada, Colorado. Also, Means Heavy Construction Cost Data (2001
Edition) was consulted for some of the items.
Grinding Portion
Included in the grinding portion of the plant are the administration building, the mill
building, the central control building, raw material silos, and support buildings, The
complete lists are included herein on Table 4.
Burning Portion
Incuded in the burning portion of the plant are the burner building, the coat unloading
building and coal silo, the primary and secondary crushers, the bag house, and support
buildings. The complete lists are included herein on Table 5
Unit Cost Summary
Estimates for the demolition and disposal are summarized below.
Item Description Cost
Demolition
Silo demolition -includes razing silos and transporting material
to stock ile $70/yd
Building demolition -includes razing structures or large
foundations and trans ortin material to stock ile $0.30fft of building
volume
Pavement ripping -includes removal of pavement and
transportin material to stock ile $1.50
A re ate Rec clin
Cost to Crush (per yard) $8/ d
Salva a Value of a re ate er and $8/ d
Disposal -includes excavation and placement of material in a pile,
and coverin with soil $10/yd
Revegation $10,000 per acre
of disturbed area
Cost Summary
The total cost of the demolition and reclamation assuming that all material is
demolished, stockpiled, and covered and the area is revegated is approximately $4.6
million. If all of the aggregate from the concrete can be sold and none of the material is
disposed of on the site, the cost is approximately $3.9 million. No additional scenarios
were calculated, such as if only part of the material was sold and some material had to
disposed of on site, or rf more marketable grain size aggregate were produced and the
aggregate could be sold at a profit rather than a break~ven price.
X:1Projetxs By Client\Cemex Ind0300SBond CalculationlPhase IlStart to Submittal\239-Engineering Design-
Construction Drug's\wortr produd\MDVJLOHR-borWca~letteA20703.doc
