Division of Minerals and Geology
March 31, 2003
Response
It is anticipated that backfilling in Cut 2 will begin in 2004. Based on the mine plan and volumes
to be backfilled in the different cuts, it is anticipated that the backfilling of Cut 2 will be
completed by the end of 2005. Once a cut has been backfilled and the quarry is proceeding with
the backfilling of the next cut, then the cut that has been backfilled will be contoured to final
grade, covered with topsoil and seeded according to the approved seed mixtwe.
Item No. 9
DMG: Rule 6 Section 6.4.4 (e) (i)-(iii) requires information regarding a proposed timetable to
describe the mining operation. It appears that much of that information would be in table D-1,
which your application says will be provided under separate cover as confidential information.
We have not received table D-l. Please provide [hat ta61e,
Response:
Please see the attached Table D-1 which is the proposed timetable for mining for the lifetime of
the quarry. The table shows the individual cuts, the planned year(s) that the cuts will be mined,
the volumes that will be removed, the respective tonnages, the volume of the area to be backfilled
in the respective areas, as well as the volume of material in loose cubic yards needed to fulfill the
requirement.
Item No. 10
DMG: There is a small block of land adjacent to and west of mining cut 2 on your mining plan
map, which is not numbered but is delineated in the same manner as the number cuts. Will that
area be mined? Please make the necessary corrections to your map to clam this matter.
Response:
The map has been revised to reflect the correct boundary for Cut 2. The map has also been
revised to show the mining cuts in the correct sequence for mining. Cut 2 is now the most
southerly cut and Cut 3 is directly north of Cut 2.
Item No. 11
DMG: The construction materials rules at 6.4.4 (~ (i and ii) require information on the nature,
depth and thickness of the deposit to be mined and the thickness and type of overburden to be
removed. This information may be marked CONFIDENTIAL. These sections also require
information on the nature of the stratum immediately beneath the material to be mined. Please
provide that information.
Response: ~, ~~~
Please see the attached Figure C-4 titled "Quarry Cross Sect ons~, which show the geologic cross
section of the area to be mined. Of the materials shown in the sections, all overburden (Smoky
Hill Limestone group) will be utilized for backfilling of the mined out aeeas. Golden Shale, a
member of the Smoky Hill Limestone group, may or may not be used for the plant depending on
Holcim Response to Amendment Adequacy Review.doc
