Post-Minine Land Use The affected land within the permit area will be reclaimed as dry rangeland. This post-mining land use was selected because it was also the pre-mining land use, and is considered the best use based on the dry climate and the overall poor soil chazacteristics in the area. Other land uses in the Portland/Penrose azea consist primarily of rural residential, farming (e.g., hay), and grazing/rangeland. There is some industrial land use to the north and southeast of the proposed mining azea. The property north of the Portland Plant quarry area is occupied primarily by the Estes model rocket company.
