Henderson Permit #77-342
March 19, 1981
Page Seven
existing interceptor canal around the tailing pond
to allow the bypass of fresh water around our
facilities throughout the life of the mine and
after the operation.
2. In addition to the mine, are any other areas included in
this amendment being dewatered?
No
3. Please supply the Division with a summary of the water
monitoring programs and fish tissue analysis.
The water monitoring and aquatic biology programs
at Henderson were commenced prior to any construc-
tion activity at the project. The water monitoring
program is done by an independent contractor and
consists of monthly water samples at six locations
at the mine site and three locations at the mill
site. The only location required for the NPDES
permit is the Urad Reservoir outfall since this is
the only discharge to surface streams.
The aquatic ecology program, including fish flesh
analysis, is conducted annually and is also
performed by an independent contractor. Aquatics
are sampled at six locations in both the Clear
Creek watershed and the Williams Fork watershed.
The results of these monitoring programs, having
been conducted over a period of ten years, are
voluminous and, if desired, can be inspected at our
offices.
4. There is no mention that ground water is being
monitored. If ground water is not being monitored,
please give the reason why. If ground water is being
monitored, please supply the Division with a summary of
the findings. We are particularly interested in knowing
if the current tailing deposition has affected the
ground water and if so, how and to what extent.
One of the Williams Fork River monthly monitoring
locations is just below the confluence of Ute Creek
with the river. Any ground water flow from the
tailing pond would probably surface at this point.
To date, the data has not shown any indication of
that happening. Ground water is not monitored
