An associated objective of the amendment is to provide
• buffer zones for the operation. These potentially affected
areas surround (or, as with islands, fall within) some of the
highly active affected areas and may be required to accommo-
date future facilities.
~ Table 1 shows the acreage of affected land bonded in the
existing permit, change in acreage due to this amendment to
occur during the 1981-1982 phase of operations, total acreage
bonded for the 1981-1982 phase, acreage designated as buffer
for potential future disturbance, and total affected land
acreage for the life of the mine. Each site is coded to the
map (enclosed). The text discusses each area in terms of
what is proposed, and why, when, and where it is proposed,
including all necessary supplemental information and
reclamation plans.
The Mining and Reclamation timetable (Table 5.1, pages
• 5-11 and 5-12) in the existing permit has also been updated
and is submitted here as Table 2.
We have recalculated the reclamation costs for the
entire mine. As stipulated by the Board during initial
action on the permit in December, 1977, the surety amount has
been updated every two years in conjunction with the annual
report. The present bond covers all disturbances through
1981. In order to eliminate the need to update the bond so
soon after approval of this amendment, we are projecting the
disturbance and bond two years into the future, i.e., through
1982 (see attached Reclamation Costs section).
MINE SITE (1
The present mine site area has become increasingly
• restrictive.
