All of the plants which United
Companies owns with the exception of one uses lazge tanks which have berms constructed
azound them when they aze placed onsite. These berms aze capable of containing more than
110% of the capacity of tank storage. The only plant which United Companies uses which does
not use 1 large tank has several small tanks which are double wall tanks. A site visit to this plant
was conducted on August 20, 2005 and it was determined that some of the double walled tanks
could have basins which contain 110% of the capacity of them installed beneath them, while
others couldn't. United Companies will install all basins which can be installed prior to the plant
operating onsite. For the double wall tanks which can not have basins fitted under them due to
low ground cleazance, a portable basin will be kept with the plant which will be capable of
holding 110% of the capacity of the largest tank which does not have a basin to contain it.
Additionally all plants which United Companies owns has a spill kit associated with the plant to
take care of a spill, should a spill ever occur. 55 gallon drums and other small containers which
do not have built in secondary containment will either be stored in the fuel farm, or in mobile
basins which are capable of containing 110% of the capacity of the container. There will be
times when these containers aze transported which they will not be in secondary containment, as
it is not feasibly possible, however they will always be stored in secondary containment.
No night mining activity is scheduled for the operation; however portable lighting may be used
within the pit from time to time. The portable lights will only be used at the bottom of the pit for
the purpose of after hour equipment maintenance and crushing activities within the permitted
hours in the winter months while the days are shorter.
