6.0 OPERATION, MAINTENANCE, AND SAFETY PROCEDURES
• 6.1 Operating Procedures
Operating procedures primarily relate to on-site movement and
use of chemicals. Employees involved in this work will receive
instruction on safe handling. This includes:
a. Driving vehicles (trucks and forklifts) carefully to
avoid collisions or ruptures to storage containers.
b. Making sure there is adequate clearance when positioning
a truck or equipment adjacent to storage or distribution
points.
c. Checking to make sure all pallets or containers are
securely placed to prevent tipping and spilling.
• ~ 6.2 Maintenance
Inspection of storage facilities will be completed on a regular
basis. The mill processing storage facilities are checked each shift
by mill personnel. Materials in the storage yard are routinely
checked by personnel. Materials in the truck shop area are checked
daily. The inspection includes checking for visible signs of leakage,
checking containers for any sign of weakness, tearing air rupturing,
and checking for cracks or breaks in containment berms. Any observed
problem will be immediately reported and repaired.
The San Luis Project will have an active security/safety
system. Access to the mill area and tailings facili~r,ies will be
through gates. Yard lighting will be adequate to deter vandalism
and to allow detection of storage containers that may be leaking.
•
-7-
