The V andiford Ditch reconstruction and the inclusion of a backwater channel to the pond will
remain the same as in Scale 1, as well as the number of j-hooks and boulder clusters.
The most prominent change between Scales 1 and 2 will be the reduction of project footprint
with the elimination of 1,5501inear feet of channel realignment, bank stabilization, and
revegetation at the northern end of the site adjacent to Site No. 4 near station 278+00. This
portion of the project has been eliminated for the Scale 2 measures because it is considered to
have less damage from in-stream mining as compared to the downstream portions of Site 3, and
it could possibly self-correct with the downstream improvements.
4.3.3 Site 3, Scale 3 Description
The project footprint for Scale 3 is identical to Scale 2, with improvements concentrated between
the south boundary and the north end of the existing gravel mining area at the off-stream pond
site. As with Scale 2, the channel layout in this azea has been changed from its initial proposal in
Scale 1 to a slightly different alignment which better utilizes the existing channel, substantially
reduces off-channel floodplain grading, and preserves more of the existing vegetation. This new
alignment will encourage efficient overbank flooding for natural recruitment of native riparian
vegetation. Scale 3 differs from Scale 2 by the removal of imported topsoil, seed, and specific
riparian plantings and replacing them with live willow silt fences to encourage and enhance
natural recruitment. Revegetation of the expansive overbank areas will rely on natural
recruitment.
The Vandiford Ditch reconstruction and the inclusion of a backwater channel to the pond will
remain the same as in Scale 1, as well as the number of j-hooks and boulder clusters.
32
